What’s your favorite word?
Oh, I don’t know, I’m too tired from a long day of hard listening. I did a change management training in the morning, then listened to a presentation on wolf spiders at the Master Naturalist meeting. My friend Eric’s enthusiasm for spiders is contagious.

I know my favorite word to say. I like the way the word “leather” feels when you say it. All the consonants can be drawn out, the “th” tickles your lips, and the vowel is soothing. (There’s just one vowel in this word in American English, thanks to how we pronounce “r”.)
You can now thank me for not going deep into phonology or phonetics or some other linguistic stuff that I once would have wanted to explain to you with respect to the sounds of leather.

As for words whose meaning I like the most…I honestly thing I once blogged that my favorite word was “friend,” but I can’t search my blog on the phone. I’m not going downstairs to visit my computer, but if I find the post, I’ll add it.

I just love it when people call each other “friend,” like one of my coworkers does. I just get all gooey inside if someone calls me their friend. And my heart feels warm when I think about my little circle of friends. Yes. I like that word.
Lately I also like the word “rain” a lot. It’s rained a bit more than a half inch, and all soaked in. Hoping for more tomorrow, nice and slow and steady.

Dear Suna,
I keep forgetting to ask about your back. How are you doing? ☺️ Well, I hope.
It has been a hectic few months here and, except for a few forwarding posts, I haven’t gotten around to writing to anyone. Then suddenly I look up and it’s September!! Now, how did THAT get here?
Amelia has been trialing a new medication dosage that takes a few weeks to show results. I think we are getting there, but so far it’s hard to tell. Video games seem to be her touchstone for really spikey days (a highly focused, distracting pass time). So I’ve learned Final Fantasy 14, while she keeps up a meticulously detailed monolog of the storyline, characters, and quests, plus backstories on the same. Rattles me. Also, SIMs 4, Cat Qest I & 2, and now Diablo 3. I’ve never used a controller in my life til I began watching her play. The learning curve for me has been really bumpy. 😉😏😅
Oh, and I got my flue shot and new RSV vaccine today. Just beat me with a stick so I will feel better. I’m so tired.
My best to you, Lee, the lovely dogs, beautiful horses, and cool chickens.

PS. What prompted me to write? The wolf spiders. They were all over the block I worked at Dow. Many a valve turn and pump start had me putting my hands in some tight spots. I was always sporting a bite or two. They also liked to hide out around the safety showers that had to be spot checked every month to make sure they functioned, all 300 of them. One day I’m checking my part of the list and pull the shower chain to let water flow and out of the shower head scrambled the biggest, fatest wolf I’d ever seen. She must have been as big as my thumb! I didn’t have the heart to shoo her away or kill her, but I did make a note to be careful to look up before running that shower. 😁🤣
