Anita and I are very proud of ourselves. What was a giant mess you couldn’t enter, only a few weeks ago, is now well on its way to becoming a dream wine cellar/shoe closet.
Shoe closet?
Yeah. The Master closet in the Bobcat Lair house turned out way too small, even after I got rid of most of my clothes when I moved here. I put in a shoe rack and other storage stuff, but all I do is fall over things.

My real estate business partner, Carol, suggested I store shoes in the wine room, and suddenly it made sense. I’m always in the office when I leave for work and when I come home, so why not put the shoes there?

But it has to look good
We still wanted the room to be for wine and spirits, so I didn’t want to just stick up some shelves. We thought and thought and measured a lot and finally found this IKEA thing with 16 squares and little boxes to put in it. I’ll be able to find the shoes but they’ll be hidden, leaving the wine as a focus.

We also spent hours looking for cabinets to put our wine racks on, which was the original plan when our contractor was going to do it. But we found a thing and ordered it, too. You’ll have to wait until next week when the stuff arrives and we figure out how to put it together.

But now!
We put the stuff we already have down in the wine cellar this evening. We sure had fun seeing our bottles of pretty liquids that had been packed away for years. As you can see, we arranged them festively, knowing that a lot of it will be in the cabinet once it arrives.

We have art to go in here, and maybe some paper lanterns. But hey, it’s finally an actual room! I celebrated by finishing off a nearly empty bottle of Gentleman Jack that had been waiting for me since we left the casita.

We would never finish all this liquor. But it’s nice to offer to guests. And don’t worry, we have lots of sparkling soda for non imbibers.

Well done, brilliant! This was how I started 40 years ago and now have a converted bedroom with chillers and a big collection of Burgundy all bought from vineyards visited. Two suggestions …… put in a couple of comfy chairs AND keep records either with a logbook or an app. 👍👍👍🍷🍷🍷

When we make a bigger wine cellar in our other house, we will have space for comfy chairs. Right now the room is too small! Thanks for your comment.
