Birds October 2025

Here are the birds observed at the Hermits’ Rest in October 2025. The winter sparrows and wrens all came back this month, and the wonderful Sandhill Cranes passed over. A stork showed up for just one day, but that was great. It also appears that a Belted Kingfisher is here for an extended stay after we finally got some rain.

Another bird first was hearing Crested Caracara make noise. When in pairs, it turns out that they are quite “chatty.” I’ll miss the fall migrants, but am ready to be entertained by the birds of winter!

There was one day that 58 species were here. I have to admit that I also enjoyed the “regular” birds, too. The Mockingbirds have been quite friendly.
