What? I Should Look at the Calendar More Often

Aha! I’ve been so busy dealing with the state of the world and the state of my job that I forgot to look at the calendar to see that I totally missed our “blog-a-versary” on April 11! While I’ve been blogging a LONG time, off and on, it’s just TWO YEARS for The Hermits’ Rest blog.

Be glad this doesn’t have sound. I can’t play piano and I can no longer sing!

While I’ve not become a super influencer or celebrity blogger, I’ve enjoyed creating a community of frequent readers and have enjoyed getting to know some fellow WordPress bloggers, which has been a surprising benefit. Enjoy some stats:

We’re coming up on 27,000 hits in the past two years. Not a lot, but not bad.

Followers, explained

According to the stats in the sidebar, 933 people follow the blog. I did not believe that until I finally figured out where all those people came from, which is social media. I figured out that Social is a combination of my Facebook and Twitter followers. Ah.

According to the way more trustworthy people at WordPress, this blog has 253 followers (WordPress plus email), many of whom are actual people! (many others have something to do with ads or SEO or some nonsense.) Now, if I were young, I’d probably have thousands of followers, but this is good for an old person blogging about rural stuff and personal blatherings.

Well, huh.

At right are my most popular posts – notice that they are all personal ones – nature photos don’t have a rabid following. I looked up what OUCH was about, and it’s when I slipped and fell on my deck. Yeah, that was worth reading about.

And I was really interested to see what countries most readers come from. The second most were from India. I have a feeling those aren’t casual blog readers. It’s probably whoever keeps posting really long lists of essay-writing sites, which at least THIS blog blocks. I never get legit comments from anywhere but the US, UK and Canada. Surprise.

Our most frequent commenter is my friend Mandi, who has commented as two different people for a total of 38 comments. Right behind her are Cathy J. and Mardrey S. Thanks, commenters! I really enjoy the interaction with all of you, whether you comment here, on Facebook, or in person (I always get Chris’s comments in person).

Fake Suna and Fake Penney say find something fascinating to distract you today!

And finally, some quick stats. The best views ever was on June 27, 2019 and the month with the most views was February 2020. I was fascinating that month. And do you want to know how rich I am becoming from the annoying ads on the blog? Since I turned that on, I have earned $27. It finally pays out when I hit $100. Maybe that will happen in a couple of years.

Now that the celebration is out of the way, I shall go off and find something at least sort of interesting to write about!
